“Rather than think of what resolutions we want to or should make, let’s focus on the GOALS we want to achieve this year in order to feel inspired, empowered, creative or just plain good about ourselves….” — Jennifer Jacobs
In my last newsletter we talked about focusing on our GOALS, and celebrating those smaller goals or steps along the way. The feedback in the comments from so many of you was absolutely amazing and inspiring to read. Thank you for sharing. I hope you all felt as inspired as I did reading all of them as well.
We are now 3 weeks into the new year and as it typically happens the enthusiasm for all things “new” tend to lose their bright shine. We start off with a bang only to find ourselves often frustrated as the momentum slows down. While we are still moving forward, we feel there is now some sand in our wheels slowing us down. We often get frustrated and some of us give up. Or we go back to certain habits that cause us to take several steps back and then we pick ourselves up and start all over again. Some time later, we get frustrated again, we give up, we pick ourselves up, and we start again…..it is an endless cycle.
It’s time to break the cycle: Transform your goal into a value and let that value be your compass that guides you consistently towards your goal each day
Sometimes the only way to break a cycle is to look at things through a different lens. That lens will allow you to see things differently and approach it in a new way that allows you to feel more relaxed and less obsessive. When you are more relaxed and take a reasonable approach to things it takes a lot of the pressure off yourself thereby making you feel less frustrated and instead helps you be more consistent for the LONG TERM….even through those tough and frustrating times.
Create value and let that be your compass
Ask yourself how you have been measuring your goals. When it comes to your fitness are you focused on number on a scale? Or are you focusing on takings steps to improve your health? Are you focusing on a restrictive diet or are you focusing on how you feel and how certain foods ultimately make you feel when you eat them or when you eat too much of something?
For example, if you want to lose weight, perhaps you reason is to improve your health and be healthier so you can do more with those you love or you want to look and feel great from the inside out for that special occasion or just simply every day. That is something that creates value.
So next time you are feeling frustrated, take a step back and think about your approach and thinking around your goals.
Transform your goal into a value and let that value be your compass that guides you consistently towards your goal each day and every day!

Now replacing ‘goal’ with ‘value’. What do I value? I am valuable—- if I truly value myself, then , I will replace bad habits with habits that will ADD VALUE TO MY LIFE!!!
