As we reach for our fitness goals in the New Year, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea of eating less or eating restrictively through all sorts of fads, gimmicks, and diets when in fact what we need to do the complete opposite. If you’ve felt this pressure now is the time to pause and think about why and what we are truly doing.
Unfortunately, during this time of year much of what we are told to do or follow in order to be “healthy” is not new. It’s the same things that we typically hear every January or even in December leading into the new year. We may be told to do a nutritional “reset” after the holidays which only ends up overly restricting our consumption of foods we love which often leads to frustration, or we are encouraged to place “bets” on ourselves with the goal of reducing a number on a scale, only to see it go back up again as soon as the game is over. The list goes on and on.
Your Health & Fitness is not a game
The thing is your health & fitness is not a game. There is so much information out there it can become confusing. It’s time to listen to the one person who knows what is best for you — that person is YOU! Because in the end only you know what is right for YOU and YOUR body and nobody else’s. That does not mean you should not consult with a medical professional when needed or listen to guidance from a certified specialist. It means that you need to recognize that everyone is different, every BODY is different inside and out. I have said it many times before — I have seen and read so many videos, articles and posts, which claim to have the answer to your problems — from being gluten free, vegan, or keto to managing your digestive system, hormones, or circadian rhythm. For some, these are legitimate health issues that people need to manage (and if so you should consult with a healthcare provider) but if you find yourself just trying it for yourself thinking it is “healthier” for you and will be the quick fix or magic wand that you need, chances are you are just following the latest fad. And the truth? That latest fad might not be right for YOU or YOUR body and you may be doing more damage than good. Why? Because we all know that a fad or obsession is simply that. And it is never a good thing in the end. It is not a lifestyle nor does it often lead to healthy sustainable habits.
It’s time to take a different approach
Let’s start by taking a different approach this time this year. Rather than restricting yourself to lose weight, try focusing on eating MORE of the right things that will actually help fuel your body and make you stronger and healthier. For example, if you are looking to build lean muscle then you may want to consider increasing your protein intake.
It’s not about what you have to lose but more about what you have to GAIN! Focus on building muscle that you are losing because you are not using them. Or focus on what your are actually trying to do. Stop listening to what other people say you should be focusing on. Why don’t people question what they are being told what to do and why?
Let me know what your health and fitness goals are so I can better help this community and what they are looking for. And be specific as possible. The more specific you are the more we can focus the discussions

I would like to build lean muscle. Can you be more specific on how much protein, when to eat it in relation to the workout. How to know if we are over training? How much cardio should you do if you want to build muscle?
Yes, yes, yes! Love this! Every body is different and we need to switch our mindsets to adding vs restricting 🙌🏻🙌🏻
